From the square outside Ercolano Scavi Station there is a bus service (click here for timetables and prices of public transport in the Vesuvius area) and taxis which will take you as high as 1000m Now operated by EAV Campania, five Regional Railway Lines known as Naples Circumvesuviana connect the city center with the city's eastern suburbs around Mount Vesuvius.Using the Napoli ↔ Sorrento and Napoli ↔ Poggiomarino lines, not only can you reach all of the major Vesuvian Excavation Sites, but the Circumvesuviana is also a cheaper, and in some cases quicker, alternative to taking. It was about 10 minutes walk from Ercolano Scavi station (where the buses to Mt Vesuvius leave from) and about 10 minutes walk from the entry to the ruins of Herculaneum. There is a supermarket just across the road and many restaurants close by.
